Summary: Again, preparation will pay big dividends. The best way to learn to teach well is to understudy one or more good teachers. At a larger university, there are probably faculty members who teach the same course. Ask if you can sit in – during an earlier semester – on the course you've been assigned. Organize how your own course will be structured. Decide what sort of evaluation procedure(s) you'll use? Make sure your syllabus and any auxiliary materials (paper or online) meet any university rules for content or accessibility. Have a support person who is familiar with the course content. And ASK if you need help, before a problem grows too large to correct easily.
