Summary: In the broadest terms, "psychophysics" is the study of how subjective experiences (psycho-) are related to changes in the physical world. It includes the study of techniques for measuring the subjective experiences themselves – often a difficult task. This article provides a brief introduction to some of the language of psychophysics. The emphasis is on traditional techniques; more modern approaches would require several separate articles and would very likely deviate from the Site's goal of avoiding "deep theory."
