Focusing mechanisms for clear vision

Summary: The eyes adjust their focus by using internal muscles – in a process called "accommodation." The resulting system allows a young healthy adult to see things clearly at distances from approximately 8 cm to infinity. Interestingly, the actual arrangement of the eye's intraocular system is counter to what most people initially believe. A more accurate understanding is important, however, if the process of focusing is to be appreciated as part of the totality of vision.
