Visual pathways in the brain

Summary: The eyes are, of course, not the only important parts of the visual system. To understand seeing, one must also appreciate how neural pathways, starting with the optic nerves, carry information to several different brain areas. These include four different lobes of the cortex (occipital, temporal, parietal and frontal), as well as portions of the sub-cortex. One must also appreciate – in at least a general sense – how different regions contribute to the overall processing of perceptual information.
