When cheap eyeglasses may (or may not) be enough

Summary: Young individuals often have a range of visual focus that runs from approximately 7-8 cm to optical infinity. Some, however, are far-sighted and cannot see clearly when objects as close-by. Others may lose the ability to see close-by as they age, making reading difficult. Of course, the best response is to visit an eye professional and have a full evaluation. If, however, one's problem is just a difficulty with close-up tasks (e.g., no astigmatism; no other issues), one may purchase relatively inexpensive reading glasses in most pharmacies. A comfortably fitting pair marked between 0.5 and 4.0 (larger numbers are stronger) should make it possible to do many close tasks without difficulty. Try before buying.
