Am I nearsighted or farsighted?

Summary: Several optical errors can affect vision. The two conditions known as myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness) each affect the match between the overall spherical curvature of the eye's optical surfaces and the requirements for good vision. In myopia, a general statement would be that the eye has more focusing power than necessary, thereby creating poor vision at any significant distance, but clear vision for nearby objects. In hyperopia, the eye lacks some needed focusing power; it can focus satisfactorily on distant objects, but images of near objects are blurred.
