Summary: Although there are experimental efforts to remove just those areas of the lens that are problematic, for most people the solution to cataracts is removal of the natural lens and replacement of its function by an artificial lens. As of today, there are many choices in deciding the replacement that will best meet one's individual visual needs and/or budget.
