Gestalt Psychology - Ambiguous figures

Summary: Early in the 20th century, there were several different schools of thought about the study of perception and about psychological research in general. This article and two other associated ones discuss some of the contributions of those who became known as Gestalt Psychologists. For example, the Gestalt Psychologists observed that certain kinds of visual displays may be seen as either of two or more alternative forms. Such patterns frequently go by the terms "reversible" or "ambiguous" figures. Artists of many eras have employed this basic concept, to create pictures that have startled, fascinated and even amazed their audiences.
