Summary: Early in the 20th century, there were several different schools of thought about the study of perception and about psychological research in general. This article and two other associated ones discuss some of the contributions of those who became known as Gestalt Psychologists. One widely known contribution of the Gestalt Psychologists was their list of various Laws of Organization. Each Law expressed a predictive statement about perceptual appearance, such as "in a display of many individual objects, those that share a similar property (e.g., shape, size, color) will be perceptually seen as being grouped, and as being separate from the objects randomly distributed around them."
