Fundamental Ideas
Articles categorized under Fundamental Ideas will describe background information about basic visual (or auditory) phenomena. For example, observations made by the Gestalt psychologists (including the so-called Gestalt "Laws of Organization") have connections to so many ideas in other areas of perception that a good grasp of their basics is crucial for understanding. Also, a few of the articles in this subcategory will summarize Walter Gogel's "Theory of Phenomenal Geometry." (Although such a theoretical article may appear to violate our initial description of the Site, it should ultimately prove its own worth. By design, most of the articles in the Perceiving category can be read without a deep appreciation of Gogel's Theory. One may thus delay reading the full article on Phenomenal Geometry until one is ready.) Critical ideas from the Theory will be incorporated into other articles as needed.
